This job title might sound appealing but before you start looking for physician assistant jobs you really want to ensure that you are qualified for this type of position. Or that you are willing to do the training this type of position requires.

Working as a physician assistant you will have many responsibilities. This can include things such as meeting with a new patient and going over their medical history. You will then arrange for certain basic tests to be done as required.

Other tasks and duties include performing first aid on minor injuries and dealing with sutures and splints. You may end up visiting patients at home and will have the authority to write certain prescriptions for patients. You will know how to understand lab tests and read x-ray results.

Physician assistant jobs are becoming more widely available. You must take certified training courses to become licensed as a physician assistant. You’ll need an excellent educational background and expect to study for several years. Most training courses are intense and last at least two years.

As with most jobs in the medical field becoming a physician assistant does not stop once you are certified. You will have to take regular training programs to keep up with advances in the medical field.  Plus you will have to be re-certified every six years. Make sure you are willing to do this type of additional training.

Once you are qualified you can start searching for physician assistant jobs for a full time position. Many of these jobs are in areas which are understaffed by doctors. You will be providing a service to a community which is in desperate need of extra medical help.

Most physician assistants will work closely with a doctor or physician. This can be in a hospital setting or at a medical centre. Nursing homes also use physician assistants on a full time basis. This can be very useful for visiting seniors who are still living at home or for those who have just been released from the hospital.

Many family physicians are now employing a physician assistant as they can do many small tasks for them such as giving flu or allergy shots. This frees up their time and reduces patient waiting times.

As a physician assistant you could end up making weekly visits to the same patients for weeks at time. This gives the patient a sense of security in knowing that the same person is looking after their health concerns.

Physician assistant jobs are always changing so it is imperative that you keep up with modern technology. Don’t forget the more experience and training you have the more you will eventually end up earning. Currently physician assistants are earning around the $80,000 mark.

With a positive outlook in the future for physician assistant jobs any earning potentials are bound to increase. Of course pay will depend up whether you are working in a large city or out in a rural area. No matter which, physician assistant jobs are growing and this is a great field to work in.
